Tourism Flanders has awarded the very first 'M label' to Thor Central. As a result, the Genk conference location at Thor Park is officially an "accessible meeting infrastructure" for wheelchair users and for people with a hearing or visual impairment.

Another great recognition and a special first, because Thor Central is a protected monument.

"We are therefore proud to be the first venue in Flanders to carry the M-Label of Tourism Flanders."

What is M-label?

In addition to the necessary infrastructural adjustments, efforts were also made in many other areas to be able to organize integrally accessible conferences and other MICE activities. Below an overview:

ACCESSIBILITY

  • Thor Central is an easily accessible event location by car and public transport. You can find all information about accessibility here.
  • Do you need an adapted shuttle service or taxi? Let us know!

LOCATION

  • The public car parks around Thor Central all have sufficient reserved spaces for wheelchair users. However, if you have more specific needs for parking, we can provide you with a "permit" card. This gives you permission to park right next to the building.
  • Thor Central is fully accessible for wheelchair users: wide access path, adapted doors, adapted toilets, no thresholds or level differences.
  • The reception desk has a lowered area where wheelchair users can drive themselves with their lap under the desk.
  • The auditorium has adapted seats for wheelchair users and extra light strips
  • All stairs are studded so that blind and partially sighted people can feel where the stairs begin and end.
  • A mobile telecoil has been installed - a system that ensures that hearing impaired people only hear the speaker during a conversation / presentation, and no annoying ambient noise.

CATERING

  • We also keep accessibility in mind when it comes to catering!
  • Service staff, low tables, low buffets, plenty of space are provided.
Certain food preferences or adapted diet for your health or out of conviction: vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lact-free intolerance, kosher, halal ...

ACCOMMODATION

  • M-Hotel

This four-star hotel in Genk, which is part of the Different Hotel Group, recently acquired an accessibility label and invested in a new, accessible and care-friendly hotel room over the past year. Attention was paid to extra facilities, such as a minibar with temperature control for storing medicines. The starting point in this room is to offer both the care tourist and the care provider maximum comfort during their stay; think of sliding doors, an electronically operated bed, a stand-on-sofa, etc. The furnishings and interior of this room have been carefully designed so that this room can be used multifunctionally, for tourists with and without care needs. The fourth floor has been completely converted into accessible and care-friendly hotel rooms.

Thor Central is a Flanders heritage venue

Thor Central has been a "Flanders heritage venue" since February 26, 2019. Tourism Flanders uses this label to create a network of inspiring meeting locations and wishes to further expand tourism in Flanders and promote it internationally. Flanders wants to attract even more international conferences in the coming years and the "Flanders heritage venues" play a leading role in this. They are the eye-catchers with which Flanders promotes itself internationally as a conference destination.
